About
Marianne Dance Academy is a 'haven for little girls' and an a blessing for their parents.
Ever since Marianne Weidemann started the academy in 1980, the studio has been playing a key role in the physical and mental development of children and young adults – some of whom have become successful ballet dancers and teachers in South Africa and others who've used ballet as a tool to grow into their best selves.
MISSION
At Marianne Dance Academy, we not only understand a child’s natural desire to move and express, we encourage and nurture it daily. By teaching the Royal Academy of Dance’s syllabus (a teaching method developed for, and with the knowledge of, children’s developmental stages) Marianne’s main goal is to guide children into becoming balanced and confident adults through dancing, regardless of natural talent, physical ability, or potential career choice.

ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE
Our Classes
The Royal Academy of Dance's syllabus offers an "internationally recognised portfolio of examinations and assessments designed to encourage, motivate and reward students of all ages and abilities, outlining a progressive structure for learning and achievement in dance."

THE GRADED SYLLABUS
AGE 5 +
The Graded Syllabus provides a broad practical dance education and develops technical, musical, and performance skills.
(Pre-Primary in Dance, Primary in Dance, and Grade 1 - 8)
VOCATIONAL GRADED EXAMINATIONS
AGE 13 +
The Vocational Graded Examinations provide an in-depth study of ballet and prepare students for a career in dance.
(Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1, Advanced 2)

PRETORIA EAST
Marianne Dance Academy's main studio is situated in Moreleta Park, but the academy also offers the Royal Academy of Dance's syllabus at various schools and preschools in and around Constantia Park, Garsfontein, and Moreleta Park.

MORELETA PARK, PRETORIA
Marianne Dance Academy's main studio is situated in Moreleta Park and serves as the hub of the academy. The studio is fully-equipped and offers the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus to boys and girls of all ages. The studio is situated in a quiet and safe area and has a professional atmosphere that welcomes all children.
SENTRUM VIR DIE KUNSTE
LAERSKOOL CONSTANTIAPARK
Marianne Dance Academy is also part of the "Sentrum vir die Kunste" at Laerskool Constantiapark in Pretoria. The "Sentrum vir die Kunste" is an after-school program that aims to introduce younger learners to the finer arts like music, art, drama, and dance. Classes are open to boys and girls under the age of 14 and the school welcomes children from all over Pretoria.
PRESCHOOL VISITS
GARSFONTEIN, MORELETA PARK, AND CONSTANTIA PARK
Marianne Dance Academy makes weekly visitations to Millenium Kids Montessori, Suikerklontjies, and Kiddiesaurus in Moreleta Park, as well as to Snippernsip in Garsfontein, and Emmanuel Kindersentrum in Constantia Park.
During visits, Marianne Ballet academy teaches preschoolers the RAD's "Dance to your own tune" curriculum, that aims to develop children's bodies, minds, and confidence through movement.

Dear parents and dancers. I am grateful that you are considering Marianne Dance Academy as your dance school. Let me tell you a bit more about my teaching style. Even though I have been placing a strong emphasis on technique for the last 36 years (as I believe good technique is the foundation of any good dancer), teaching ballet as a discipline, for me, is about so much more.
It is about giving children the opportunity to experience the wonderful world of music and movement, regardless of physical ability. It is about boosting self-confidence and creativity. It is about teaching children how to deal with failure, how to stay focused, and how to persevere. I truly believe that through ballet we can develop a positive body image and learn how to practice self-control, which play a crucial part in the type of people we want to become.
